I have completed an Educational Technology Endorsement Program.
Vocabulary
I am learning lot of new vocabulary. Sometimes people are talking about apps and sometimes people are talking about concepts. And sometimes I am not sure which is which. I don't like to look dumb so I just listen and try to learn.
Two terms that have been foggy for me are digital storytelling and podcasts. These are both concepts and I know that both of these are a way of telling a story or conducting an interview. I decided to research it a little further. I went to wikipedia. According to Wikipedia digital stories are short 2 to 3 minute multimedia movies that combine photographs, video, animation, sound, music, text, and often a narrative voice. It says that a podcast is a combination of broadcast and pod, coming from iPod. OK. I get it. It also said that podcasts have episodes. (I think of a TV show or a news show.)
But news shows are audio and video so is Digital Storytelling the larger concept and Podcasts are a type of Digital Storytelling? They seem similar in any case. I thought Podcasts were just audio but, at UCET I saw a demo of Podcasts that included a student produced news show with audio and video. I am still confused. Maybe it doesn't matter what it is called. I would tell a teacher to use Garage Band for audio only and iMovie for audio and video. Right?
