Figured out how to make legal sized copies on our new 4-in one printer. Met with counselor about the 8th grade writing test. We need to adjust our schedule because we have four classes that need to test 5th period and we only have three locations. Time to brainstorm a good solution. I also sent out my handout on requesting time off on Skyward. Got a few questions about that. My piles got filed today! I hope I remember where i put my things. My brain feels calmer now. The busses have arrived. I have to go and do my parking lot duty.
I created my own handout today for teachers, on how to enter time off requests in Skyward. I added screenshots and reworded the information the previous Ed Tech created. Up until last week our Secretary has always entered our time off requests for each of us. Apparently, each employee is required to do this themselves. I am having a couple of teachers proof read it before I e-mail it out to the faculty.
I had a parent meeting this morning so I couldn't help any teachers. Two people came by my room. I need to send them an e-mail and find out what I can do to help them.
Great Ed Tech meeting this afternoon. We learned about the materials available for our ELL students. INSIDE is for grades 4-8 and EDGE is for grades 9-12. There is a book as well as online components. The fluency piece is really amazing and is exactly what students need in order to make gains. They can listen to a narrator read a text aloud and then the students can record themselves reading. The voice recognition software then grades the reading. This is fantastic. Our school currently has only six ELL students. That is not enough to create an ELL class. I plan to tell our ELA teachers about the materials and see if they are interested in trying to incorporate this new technology with their ELL students. I didn't go to work today because I have caught a terrible cold. I took some sudafed this afternoon and got this website up and going. I didn't teach anybody anything today. That is a bummer. I need to get my hours up. My goal is to be spending 72 minutes a day teaching teachers. A zero really hurts! Tomorrow I have my district meeting so I won't get any minutes in because of that. Friday needs to be a big day!
YESTERDAY Tuesday 2/7/08 I did do some teaching yesterday. I demonstrated in faculty meeting how use the new scanner and with the flash drives Joanne bought the faculty. There were a couple of questions asked during my presentation and I spent a good part of the afternoon researching the answers. I sent out an e-mail to the faculty explaining what I found out. I left school at 3:30 to go to my Ed. Tech class. I really learn a lot in class. Right now it is a lot of theory and then putting that theory into practice. This is my new Ed. Tech blog. I have been attempting to write down what I do each day and my thoughts about what is working at Albion and what isn't working. Today, I realized the perfect place to keep track of all the thoughts running around in my head is a blog. I decided to make it more than just a blog. I created an entire website. This is just for me. I may share it with others but the information is organized to help me do this job that I love. The day goes by so quickly that I hardly have time to think.
